My name is Megan Zumwinkel Taylor -- or MZT for short. I specialize in solving problems for swamped business owners.

We all have superpowers. Nothing as flashy as flight or invisibility, of course, but they're there, under the surface, in each and every one of us. We all have something that we do better than anyone else; call it a talent, or a passion, or a gift if you like, but I prefer superpower.

My superpower is the ability to enhance other superpowers.

In a vacuum, of course, that's a pretty lame power, but lucky for us you have a superpower that I can enhance to make you better and more effective at what you do.

Over the last few years, I've worked with (and in) a bunch of different industries, including retail, food service, theatre, customer service, and finance. I've learned dozens of interesting things along the way (like welding!), discovered a passion for organizing and spreadsheets, and reaffirmed my desire to know something about everything.

What this means for you is that I have a broad base of knowledge from which to draw, and a fresh, multi-faceted perspective that I can use to help you solve problems and create solutions. And, when it comes right down to it, my very favorite people to help are small business owners. You all have the most interesting problems to solve. As a Virtual Assistant working online. Funny thing, though — "VA" doesn't really do it for me. I can't help it; my standard is set a lot higher that that, so I decided on a job title that made my goals for my clients really clear: Chief Problem-Solving Officer — I help you keep your business running smoothly and make sure you don't let things fall through the cracks. ;-)

Since beginning this work, I've provided VA-style services to a dressmaker and seamstress, a Rolfing® instructor and woodworker, a potty-mouthed marketing maven, a head-in-the-clouds idea catalyst, a sales guru and podcaster, and many others. I'd love the chance to help you, too.

I organize like a maniac.

  • Note-taking has always been a forte of mine, and I am great at organizing information.
  • My love of spreadsheets borders on the ridiculous. Yeah, I'm a bit of a geek. It's cool, though. You can call it like it is.
  • I create annual review reports for financial advisors and personal finance spreadsheets for friends and family (much to their delight).
  • I write lecture outlines and curriculum-style worksheets for attendees.
  • I organize systems in order to increase function and efficiency. I take your disarray and come up with an easily implementable plan to make it work for you.
  • I have developed an easy-to-use personal finance system (spreadsheets, instructions, and everything).
  • I'm great with numbers, and I have some serious aptitude for administrative work.
  • I research travel options for clients utilizing all modes of transportation.
  • I even helped one client research and plan her wedding; I'm not an official wedding coordinator, but I know a thing or two about event planning.

I do what needs to be done, and I eat deadlines for breakfast.

  • I write book reviews, blog posts, and first drafts of everything under the sun for clients who need a nudge forward before they can see the project clearly.
  • I create outlines and summaries of online courses for clients whose businesses will benefit from the education, though they haven't yet had time to dive thoroughly into the course work.
  • I've done customer service and phones management for ages, and I know how the administrative side of a business needs to work in order for everything to run smoothly.
  • I transcribe audio interviews to written format — and I even humanize transcriptions made by automated transcription services so that regular people have an easier time understanding them.
  • I work with CRM software — that's customer relationship management — to keep my clients' contacts neatly organized.
  • I design mock-ups and do finish work for advertisements and business brochures, saving clients hundreds in design fees.

Research and learning curves are my favorite pastime.

  • I do research, iron out sticky tech problems, and find tweaks to keep your systems running smoothly.
  • Tired of trying to figure out why WordPress is doing that crazy thing on that one webpage? Tired of scouring Shopify for that one tiny tech support question that might have the answer to your problem? Maybe you're still trying to figure out how to use those shortcuts on your computer, or how the heck uploading pictures actually works, and need somone to walk you through it. I do this for clients all the time, and it's a breeze.
  • I constantly look at systems to find the kinks and straighten them out. I can make suggestions that will make your business run more smoothly — and in many cases, I can even help you implement them.
  • Looking for specifics?
    • I've made sense of E-Junkie (an e-commerce tool) so a client could see at a glance how much she had sold of each product she offered, and how much she owed her affiliates.
    • I've helped a client plan a cross-country move, including researching housing options for him when he arrived.
    • I've researched the process of forming an LLC and put together a simple step-by-step guide to help a client determine which method she wanted to use.
    • I've helped a client figure out how to transport a car across the country to his daughter in the army. I researched all the possibly methods, found the most reliable and cost-effective one, and, with his permission, booked the transportation of the car.

I solve problems and put together puzzles. I love seeing projects through to the very end, and I'm not daunted by confusing tangles — I untangle them. (Some of my clients call me their "extra brain" in addition to their "extra set of hands".)

I am known for my boundless enthusiasm, and I love being the motivating force behind a successful project. Skill by itself isn't the thing that makes a great assistant. It's enthusiasm for conquering obstacles and successfully shipping the project at hand that makes the difference between a frustrating new hire and a helper who's worth the time you paid for. And even better than that, a helper who turns out to be the key to a beautiful finished product — launched on time. (That's me!)

I don't have all the answers (who does?), but I have the interest, inclination, wherewithal (read: Google-fu) to figure out most problems. My clients know that I'm quick on the uptake, and many tell me that's their favorite aspect of working with me. In the meantime, you can trust that I'll help you if I can (and let you know honestly when I can't).
